Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player won his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former coach Cervara.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first championship after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

Success also means he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

His defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet rescued four early chances in a tight third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
